Winter Solstice

A brisk Sunday morning,
in the Wenatchee National Forest.

A beautiful A-frame,
situated perfectly
on Memory Lane.
A structure that comforts our hearts
and brings light to our night.

Winter Solstice,
a season’s change.
Advent season,
God’s offering of a new approach.

Both bring new light—
a time to nourish,
to see with new sight.

Reminded:
without darkness,
we can’t see the light.

As evening draws near,
we celebrate the change.
Honoring Japanese tradition,
nourishing the body with
kabocha squash soup—
welcoming the Winter Solstice,
and the new light
that brings brightness
to our lives.

Understanding time.
Accepting change.

As Pastor reminds us,
Advent asks us to pause.
To repent—
to change our minds,
adjust our thinking,
stop trying,
lay down our basket
and climb the roof to see.

A challenging invitation:
to stop,
to wait,
to repair.

God’s better way
is breaking into each of us—
a new birth,
a new path,
a new direction.

Advent is the space
to wake from an exhausting dream
and begin a new one.

The Winter Solstice reminds us:
the light does not rush—
it returns, slowly, faithfully.

Trust is the true light of the season.
